Benetti Yachts and Their Tenders: Sizing for the Mediterraneo 116 and Oasis Range

Benetti builds at a scale where the tender stops being an accessory and starts being a piece of the yacht's operation. What that changes.

Introduction

Benetti has been building yachts at Viareggio since the nineteenth century, and today sits within the Azimut|Benetti group as one of the best-known names in Italian superyacht construction. Its composite and steel-and-aluminium ranges span from around thirty metres upward.

That scale changes the tender conversation in a specific way. Below roughly twenty-five metres, the tender is a compromise against a tight garage. At Benetti sizes, the garage is usually adequate — and the binding constraints move to crane capacity, launch sequence and what the crew can handle in a seaway.

01The Mediterraneo 116

The Mediterraneo 116

The Mediterraneo 116 sits at around thirty-five and a half metres in our reference data — squarely in the range where an owner can specify a serious ship-to-shore tender rather than accept whatever fits.

At this size the practical questions are about operation rather than fitment. How quickly can the tender be in the water with guests aboard? Can it be launched in conditions where the yacht is rolling? Does it come back aboard cleanly at the end of a long day when the crew is tired? A boat that answers those well is worth more than one that is marginally larger.

Diesel becomes a genuine option at this scale, and it is worth considering seriously. Common bunkering with the mother yacht, better range, and a fuel the crew is already handling all simplify operations in a way that matters more on a thirty-five metre yacht than on a fifteen.

02The Oasis and Fast ranges

The Oasis and Fast ranges

The Oasis 34M and 40M and the Fast 125 sit from roughly thirty-four metres upward. At forty metres, tender selection is effectively unconstrained by size — you are choosing the right boat rather than the boat that fits.

That freedom introduces its own error. Owners at this scale frequently over-specify: a large, heavy, capable tender that is superb for the long transfer and too much boat for the short hop to a beach club. The common resolution is two tenders — a substantial ship-to-shore boat and a light second craft for casual use — which is why crane capacity and deck stowage, not garage volume, end up being the real constraints.

03What to check on a Benetti

What to check on a Benetti

Even where size is not binding, four things decide the outcome. They are worth confirming against the actual yacht rather than the general arrangement drawing.

Crane safe working load at full extension
The rating at reach, not at the base. Tender dry weight plus fuel plus fitted equipment is what you compare against.
Garage aperture and launch path
Whether the boat launches on a slipway, by crane, or off a hydraulic platform — and how many crew that sequence needs.
Second-tender provision
If a light craft or a set of toys shares the space, the primary tender's envelope shrinks accordingly.
Fuel commonality
Diesel tenders bunker with the yacht. On a yacht of this size that is an operational simplification worth real money over a season.

04Where we come in

Where we come in

We are an authorised dealer for Surmarine and Williams, not for Benetti — we do not sell the yacht, we specify the boat that goes on it. That makes us useful precisely at the point where an owner or captain has the yacht and needs the tender decision made properly.

Our Benetti fitment pages run the published lengths of each model against the current collection and return a ranked shortlist with the reasoning shown. Fitment is guidance: garage dimensions, crane capacity and platform geometry make the final call, and we would rather survey the yacht than assume it.

Common questions

Asked and answered

  1. 01

What size tender does a Benetti Mediterraneo 116 carry?

At around thirty-five and a half metres, the Mediterraneo 116 is large enough that garage size is rarely the binding constraint — crane capacity, launch sequence and operational preference usually decide. Larger ship-to-shore models, including diesel options, are realistic. The individual yacht's arrangement determines the final answer.

  2. 02

Should a Benetti tender be diesel or petrol?

Diesel is worth serious consideration at Benetti sizes because it bunkers in common with the mother yacht, offers better range, and is a fuel the crew already handles. Petrol jet models remain the lighter, livelier choice and often make sense as a second tender for casual use.

  3. 03

Do many Benetti owners carry two tenders?

It is common above about thirty-five metres — a substantial ship-to-shore boat for guest transfers plus a light craft for beach and casual use. When that is the plan, crane capacity and deck stowage matter more than garage volume.

  4. 04

What does a Benetti Mediterraneo 116 cost?

We can't answer that — Hawkshore Marine doesn't sell Benetti yachts, and the builder's pricing is handled by Benetti and its dealer and brokerage network. What we can tell you is what goes aboard one: tender fitment and specification for a yacht of that size is our daily work, and our Benetti fitment pages show a ranked shortlist with the reasoning attached.

  5. 05

    Do you sell Benetti yachts?

No. Hawkshore Marine is an authorised dealer for Surmarine and Williams tenders. We specify and supply the tender that goes aboard a Benetti; we are not a Benetti broker.
